Report Calls HIT A Valuable Tool

A “Report to the National Commission for Quality Long Term Care” identified six areas for change as a vision for long term care—culture transformation, empowering individuals and families, workforce, technology, regulation, and finance.

Specifically, the report suggested that HIT can be used to raise expectations through quality reporting and outcomes transparency, help reduce feelings of isolation among seniors and caregivers, enable streamlined and coordinated training across sites and systems, improve the application of other technologies by supporting the HIT infrastructure, reduce reporting burdens through data extraction and report generation, and support action and outcomes transparency that help align financial incentives and reimbursement models with quality outcomes.
