 JAMA Finds Benefits of Antibiotic Outweigh Heart Risks

Elderly patients treated for pneumonia with the antibiotic azithromycin fared better than their peersdespite facing higher risks of heart attacks, a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association says. Nearly 64,000 elderly veterans with pneumonia were studied, JAMA says, and the data show that those treated with azithromycin fared so much better than those without that the drug is worth the heart risks.
