Steinfort and five of his fellow brothers-in-arms in long term care facilities in Michigan flew in a fleet of six vintage biplanes. "It brings back a lot of memories," said Daniel Bursch, 103, a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during the war. The planes themselves have as much history as those flying in them—one was used to train new aviators in the military during the 1940s.

| 2021-08-10T00:00:00Z | | Stories of Care |
Olympic Hopeful Seeks Advice from Former Competitor | https://www.mcknights.com/news/the-brighter-side/olympic-hopeful-meets-former-u-s-star-at-his-ny-nursing-home/ | Olympic Hopeful Seeks Advice from Former Competitor | |

While the Tokyo Olympics were in full swing, one Olympic hopeful took the opportunity to reach out to an old expert. Bobsledder and 2022 Winter Games hopeful 24-year-old Hunter Church met with Paul Savage, 86, a resident at Meadowbrook in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Savage himself competed in the 1964 and 1968 with the U.S. bobsled teams. Savage’s advice? Pretty simple: “Keep in good physical shape. Don’t drink. Don’t smoke.” Church was pleased with the meeting, to say the least. “Being able to meet someone like Mr. Savage is only going to motivate me and kind of propel me forward going into this year,” Church told local media during the meeting.

| 2021-08-10T00:00:00Z | | Stories of Care |

While everybody is having fun, Activity Director Jennifer Steiger said it’s also both mentally and physically fulfilling. In events such as a disc throw, “it gets them up and moving so they’re using different muscles that way,” Steiger said. Residents are already looking forward to the Winter Games and subsequent snowball fights with marshmallows.

| 2021-08-10T00:00:00Z | | Stories of Care |
