Resources for Care Providers
5/1/2021
Earlier this year a number of resources became available for memory care providers.
- The Alzheimer’s Association has published a white paper, “Emergency Preparedness: Caring for persons living with dementia in a long-term or community-based care setting.” The paper covers emergency situations, such as the current COVID-19 pandemic, special circumstances in the delivery of care in long-term and community-based care settings, and gives recommendations to providers on person-centered care, preventing illness, helping family and friends stay connected, assisting with eating and drinking, monitoring walking and unsafe wandering, and observing and responding to dementia-related behavior. The white paper is available at http://alz.org/media/Documents/COVID-19-EmergencyTips_LongTermCommunityBasedDementiaCare_AlzheimersAssociation.pdf.
- The Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Provider Roundtable, which disseminates and adopts evidence-based practice recommendations, has developed a video that provides tips and guidance for professionals facing COVID-19 challenges in long-term and community-based care settings. “Caring for People Living with Dementia During an Emergency” gives recommendations to providers and is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C6cYM9F6hA.
- The American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living have published a number of resources for providers, families, and residents to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. See “Keeping Residents Engaged” and “Keeping People Connected: Innovative Methods Using an Infection Prevention & Control Mindset” under Guidance and Resources at www.ahcancal.org/Coronavirus.
